These fields of study are in science, technology, engineering and mathematics hence the name STEM. In recent years this particular growing job field has been outsourced to work visas for immigrants who are skilled in these areas. This outsourcing has led to several debates and controversies regarding the inability of the government to offer the same jobs to American graduates. In recent months, however, there has been a growing concern to start allowing college students and high school graduating seniors to discover STEM jobs and what is they can do for the student in the long run.

Why STEM Jobs

The growth of STEM jobs became popular in 2012. The reason for this was due to the United States Department of Homeland Security. The Department Homeland security announced that they would be expanding certain aspects of their departments in regards to the growing need for science, technology, engineering and math. These designated programs required specialty degrees and specially trained individuals to handle them. This expansion of Homeland security was to help combat any type of Homeland security issue or issues on foreign soil. These were not basic academic degrees but highly advanced degrees that required individuals who were skilled in the areas to help Homeland security with various issues related to these areas.

Advantages of Choosing a STEM Field

There are several advantages for college students to choose a major in the STEM fields. One of the major dangers is that the US government department of Homeland security are hiring within these areas at a rapid pace. It is almost a 100% job guarantee that an individual who majors in one of these areas will be able to obtain a job with the US government in a long-standing career profession. In a time where the economy and job market is on a downward spiral, this type of fieldwork could mean a secured career within the government. Formal sciences, physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences, applied sciences and various other science areas are in desperate need of individuals and qualified graduates. This means that a student would not have to choose a study that they were not interested in. For example, you would not need to choose earth space science when you are more interested in physics.

Types of STEM Jobs Available

The big question for many graduates is what type of STEM jobs are available. Jobs in physics, chemistry, mathematics and statistics are always available with the department of Homeland security when it comes to these types of jobs. However, there are also jobs available in psychology, biochemistry, computer engineering and astrophysics. Nuclear physics and neurobiology are also on the rise within these particular forms of job sets. The reason for this is due to the fact that the department of family and security in the government are primarily dealing with terrorist actions that may develop over a wide range of the disciplines within STEM job sets.
